Weekend Snapshots

This weekend was much less eventful than last weekend.  I didn't graduate, and it wasn't Mother's Day.  But I did get to spend a lot of time with my good friend Andrea who is moving away in just a couple of weeks.

First we celebrated her birthday, which is tomorrow.  

I got her this and wrapped it up all pretty.

Then we went out for happy hour and I 

picked the girliest drink possible.  Complete 

with a heart shaped straw in all it's glory.

On Saturday we went to Cupcake.  It's a cupcake shop 

(shocking, I know) that I have always wanted to try.  

It was delicious.

on a fruit flavored cupcake but I just wasn't having it.

Andrea bought me this book and I'm really excited 

to read it.  From what I can tell so far the author

talks about little moments of joy with an undertone

of sarcasm/dry humor.  Just my cup of tea.

That's that.  Or at least those are the only iPhone pictures I took.  My weekend also included plenty of yoga, Mad Men watching and a bit of laundry.  Good times.

Style Me Minty

One of my new loves lately is Style Mint.  For those of you who haven't heard of it, Style Mint is an online store that sells amazing t-shirts (among other things) at completely reasonable prices.  I know what you're thinking.  How can a t-shirt be amazing?  Well somehow, these ones are.  They are so versatile and so pretty and so well made.  (And no I promise I'm not getting paid to promote this)

I'm going to admit it.  I'm just going to put it out there.  Ever since I saw these Thakoon bandage dresses from the Spring 2009 runway I think he may have become one of my favorite designers.

Beauty in Disarray

I know that this may not be as bright and cheery and colorful as some of my other posts, but I find the topic intriguing.  Yesterday I was talking to a friend about a trip she had taken to Detroit earlier this year.  She said that the city, at least in comparison to others she has visited, was run down and that many of the buildings were deserted.  This spiked my curiosity and naturally I followed up by doing a google search.  I typed in "ruins of detroit" and found a website called Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre.  The site contained a five year study in photography that resulted in an exhibit entitled The Ruins of Detroit.  Here are some of the pictures from the exhibit.  I think it's possible to find beauty even amidst so much disarray.
